Big Morongo Canyon Preserve
Big Morongo Canyon Preserve information
Named as one of California’s important birding areas by no less an authority than the Audubon Society, Big Morongo Canyon Preserve encloses a natural spring-fed desert oasis that’s a native riparian habitat where cottonwoods and willows grow. Even bighorn sheep are occasionally attracted to its watering holes. From the interpretive kiosk at the entrance, wooden boardwalks pleasantly meander through marshy woodlands.
The entrance is in Morongo Valley, off Hwy 62, about a 25-minute drive west of Joshua Tree, towards I-10.
