Catalina Island Getting there & around

Getting around

Most places in Avalon are reached within a five- or 10-minute walk. The Avalon Trolley operates along two routes, passing all major sights and landmarks; tickets cost $1.50 per ride or $5 for a day pass.

Brown’s Bikes (310-510-0986; www.catalinabiking.com), near the boat terminal, repairs, sells and rents ($12 to $21) beach cruisers and mountain bikes.

To get into the backcountry, board the Airport Shuttle (310-510-0143; round trip $17) leaving up to six times daily. Reservations are required. The Safari Bus Shuttle (310-510-8687; mid-Jun-early Sep) connects Avalon and Two Harbors via the airport and also stops at trailheads for campgrounds. Fares depend on distance traveled; Avalon to Two Harbors is $23.50 each way. Buy tickets at any Discovery Tours office.
