Lonely Planet review for Cafe Intermezzo
Great for quick, filling meals, Intermezzo holds the title for the biggest and best sandwiches and salads; the bread's homemade too.

Huge Salads and Sandwiches for everyone
torped0 recommends this,
If you show up around lunch or dinner time, you may find that the line is huge and spilling out the door onto Telegraph avenue. That's because Intermezzo serves huge salads, sandwiches and hearty soups - pretty cheap and always delicious. The order line moves efficiently so you won't wait too long, and it's casual so you find your own table. You can also get espresso and coffee drinks there, so it's a nice little cafe to visit during the off-hours. For way under $10 you get a salad large enough to share, some fruit and a big slice of homemade honey-wheat bread. Travelers can definitely get their money's worth here, and won't leave hungry.
The salads themselves are the main event and can be vegetarian or you can add your choice of meats, and most have several types of beans, sprouts, lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, egg... etc. These are definitely full meals! The poppyseed dressing is famous, but all of them are good. I've never had a bad meal here. And I usually don't even like salad.
