Lonely Planet review for Museum of Science

This educational playground has more than 600 interactive exhibits. Favorites include the world’s largest lightning-bolt generator, a full-scale space capsule, a world population meter and a virtual fish tank. The amazing array of exhibits and presentations explores computers, technology, complex systems, algae, maps, models, dinosaurs and birds. Many others focus on the natural world, including exploration of issues such as organic waste as an alternative fuel source, pathogens on produce and the impact of the changing environment on various species. Live science demonstrations involve animals and experiments taking place before your eyes, while the Discovery Center offers other hands-on fun that’s cool for kids. The museum also houses the Charles Hayden Planetarium and Mugar Omni Theater. The planetarium boasts a state-of-the-art projection system that casts a heavenly star show, programs about black holes and other astronomical mysteries, and evening laser light shows with rock music.
