Lonely Planet review for MassArt
More formally known as the Massachusetts College of Art, this is the country’s first and only four-year independent public art college. In 1873 state leaders decided the new textile mills in Lowell and Lawrence needed a steady stream of designers, so they established MassArt to educate some. The South Building houses over 9000 sq ft of exhibit space in the Arnheim, Bakalar and Paine galleries, while the Tower also houses the President’s Gallery. There’s always some thought-provoking or sense-stimulating exhibits to see.

A 5 minute walk from the Museum of Fine Arts...
31pj31 recommends this,
Being just 5 minutes walking distance from the Museum of Fine Arts and neighboring the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum; MassArt is a great place to visit and experience Art and Design. The many galleries at MassArt offer views of the works of visiting artists and current students. The graduate student exhibitions at the end of the academic year are a highlight of the galleries if you happen to be in the area at the time. If you are touring the local Art museums then it is absolutely worth the 5 minute walk to MassArt and see what the galleries have to offer.
