    Pixie Stix

This sweet boutique caters to ‘tweens’ – that awkward age between kid and teenager – and does so with cuteness and coolness, if that’s possible. The fun fashions at Pixie Stix will appeal to mother and daughter with bright colors, bold patterns and preppy styles. By the way, moms, you will also find some adult sizes here, so don’t be surprised if you find something you want to keep for yourself!

    Bird by Bird

Lulu Davis and Debbie Bowman set out to open a shop that would carry ‘funky, spunky, cool, unique, special, well-designed clothes’ for little tykes. What they created is a wonderful, welcoming ‘urban boutique’ that carries adorable and unusual kids’ styles – much of which is ecofriendly and from local designers. If your baby is not yet sporting a ‘People’s Republic of Cambridge’ T-shirt, now is the time.

    Hatched

A baby is surely one of nature’s most incredible creations, so why muff it up with synthetic fabrics and toxic toys? If you prefer to dress your little bundle of natural goodness in unbleached cloth diapers and adorable organic clothing, you’ll find an excellent selection at ‘Boston’s first ecobaby store’ (but you can’t buy an ecobaby here).

    Red Wagon

The original endeavor of Suzy O’Brien (proprietor of Pixie Stix), the Red Wagon carries equally adorable outfits for smaller tykes. The store has expanded in the past decade, now offering shoes and clothing for kids up to age seven, plus books and toys. For newborns, the staff will put together a ‘Welcome Wagon’ filled with toys and treats.
