Lonely Planet review for Barking Crab
Big buckets of crabs (Jonah, blue, snow, Alaskan or whatever is in season), steamers dripping in lemon and butter, paper plates piled high with all things fried… The food is plentiful and cheap, and you eat it at communal picnic tables overlooking the water. Beer flows freely. Service is slack but the atmosphere is jovial. Be prepared to wait for a table if the weather is warm.

Amazing crab! Fun restaurant!
clm01 recommends this,
This place does fantastic crab - we ordered a bucket and true to the name it came in a bucket with a rock to bash open the crab legs with! Was a lot of fun and absolutely delicious! So so fresh! I particularly enjoyed the enormous King Crab claw - the meat was really sweet.

Awesome- But a Tourist Trap
vicorlov recommends this,
The Barking Crab is one of the biggest tourist traps in town. That being said, I'm a Bostonian who loves it anyway!
If you can battle through the hour-2 hour long line, then this place is really great! The paper plates and plastic buckets full of the freshest seafood really add to the overall ambiance (also great on weeknights when there's live music)! Try the bucket of Old Bay seasoned shrimp! Their burgers and salads are good too.
Also, pick up a custom T-Shirt while you're there- they change every season and you'll have your very own memory of Boston from a specific year.
PS There's now a location in Newport, RI.
