Last week, I read a book about how livestock are one of the largest contributors to environmental degradation, and was feeling increasingly irresponsible for eating meat. The feeling of guilt had gotten so bad, that recently while cleaning a chicken it started to talk to me. It was a five-pound bird, and as I washed it under the tap it started to speak. It was a rather strange experience, as the bird had been decapitated so it had to speak through the hole where its neck once was. It told me about all the hormones it had been injected with, and its miserable existence living in a tiny coop with no room to even spread its wings. 
"I know I have to die," it said, "I know millions of chickens die every day, I don’t expect a perfect existence, but I never had one happy moment in my life. Every moment was filled with pain and suffering."
"You should be happy to die then," I responded. 
"No, I’m not happy, the chicken said, because everyday when I looked out of the bars of my coop I had hope."
I started dusting its body with salt and pepper. 
"What gives you the right to kill me? What gives you the right to live, while I die?" It shrieked. 
Disgusted, I threw the whole bird in the garbage can.
