You know what to expect from a Holiday Inn: clean quarters, decent design, decent furnishings, efficient staff. While this East Cambridge, middle-of-nowhere location may seem like a detraction, it's only a two-minute walk to the Lechmere Green Line and a short bus trip to Harvard Square. There's also plenty of free parking - amazing!
The term 'Express' should clue you in: this hotel is more of the fast-food variety then the gourmet option offered downtown. Complimentary continental breakfast and in-room microwave and fridge help make this a fine base of operations for prowling the city. If your aim is to explore the fabulous shoreline to the east and north, you're ideally situated to avoid in-town gridlock. Pluses include a spacious common area with a large TV. Rooms come with free local calls, cable TV and free high-speed wireless Internet access (pokey dial-up for the wired set); kids under 19 can share their parents' room for free. There's no in-house restaurant, but you can't swing a frying pan in Boston or Cambridge without hitting a drool-worthy eatery.
