Lonely Planet review for Whole Foods Market
Austinites remember Whole Foods back when it was just a low-key hippie grocer, and look at it now, with more than 140 stores nationwide focusing on healthy, natural and organic groceries. There’s a great selection of takeout at this enormous flagship store, perfect for stocking a picnic.

Where childhood memories can be made

My parents used to take me here after doctors visits to get a bag of candy, it was always so hard to choose! I now go with my friends to the restaurant in the back, because it's relatively inexpensive and the Asian Wrap is SO good. They sometimes have bands playing and it is the perfect place to relax and feel comfortable. Bring your date, ipad, or a book!

Yeah, it's Whole Foods, but WOW!

This is on my must-see list of places for visitors to Austin. Roam aimlessly through the aisles of this giant food mecca, stare at the huge variety of imported chocolates, gorge on free bread samples, taste some in-house roasted nuts, and then, after you've taken it all in...try to decide if you'd like sushi, pizza fresh from the brick oven, a juicy hand-patted burger, something from the buffet, pit roasted bar-b-q, or...? Don't forget to go in the back left corner by the bread and chocolate fountain and snag one of their great desserts! It can get really hectic at certain times, so have patience. There's a giant underground parking lot, so don't let the little one out front fool you.
