Lonely Planet review for Salt Lick BBQ
Many people say the Salt Lick is well worth the drive for the vast Hill Country horizons seen from its rustic outdoor tables. The family-style meal includes all-you-can-eat beef, sausage, pork ribs and sides. There’s also live music on weekends.

Barbeque's capital; 'nuff said

BRISKET (not "briscuit") ribs, sausage, chicken, it's all good!
It's hard to come up with something unique to add to the writing of barbeque's Texas throneroom. Admittedly biased, I will still say that the Central Texas style of barbeque (made with oak and enjoyed with thin, vinegar-based sauce if any) is best because it highlights the meat and that marvelous magic the heat and smoke work on it. This style's keep is in Driftwood, and though the sauce is unusual for the region the Salt Lick reigns supreme for its historic open pits. Throw in the fact that they'll keep bringing as much as you like and it makes for all you want of great thing. Be prepared to wait on any given evening.

Get thee to Salt Lick, pronto!
kaustin recommends this,
Salt Lick is an Austin must-eat, but it must be the one in Driftwood. Prepare by not eating the day before and then order the all-you-can-eat. Briscuit, pork ribs, sausage (my favorite anywhere), beans, coleslaw (with a nice non-mayonaise dressing and an Asian influence of sesame seeds - YUM!), potato salad, bread, onions and pickles. Try not to waddle out! The sauce is unique and good. They also have a habanero sauce which I'm not about to try. Atmosphere is "rustic Hill Country". Gets really crowded at dinnertime, so try it for lunch if you can.
