Lonely Planet review for Hut's Hamburgers
Choose from regular beef, natural grass-fed cattle or buffalo meat for your burger at this Austin roadhouse (it was opened in 1939). Southern mains, like chicken-fried steak, are pretty good too.

Authenticity, thy name is Hut's!
colonelplink recommends this,
Hut's has that iconic Americana feel, replete with sports team banners from all over the country and magazine articles under glass hailing the triumphs of Texas legends like Darrel Royal and Tom Landry. Wednesdays are famous for two-for-one deals on their myriad burger styles, such as the Theta (hickory sauce, cheddar, pickles, mayo) the Richie Valens (cheddar, onions, tomato, guacamole), the Sink burger (ham, tomato, hickory sauce), and the Arnold's Best (Jack cheese, bacon, lettuce, guacamole).
The city's premier meatloaf is the daily special on Thursdays: a gastronomic tour-de-force not to be missed by any fan of America's most representative dish. A slab of integrity bordered by green bean casserole and mashed potatoes, other veggies are available but one might wonder why after sampling this triumvirate (their broccoli-rice casserole and green beans are also big hits). The steaming hunks of truth are ladled with your choice of mushroom gravy or the marinara also used at the sister establishment Angie's next door. Hut's will gladly seat you up until 10pm, but not after. The Blue Plate specials are offered throughout each weekday, including southern fried chicken Mondays (a delicious breast fillet lightly battered), and a Friday fried catfish fillet that ranks among the best in town.
