    It's cute

Not much of a "tourist attraction", however great place to take kids on a lay low day.

Fun 20 minute activity, great for families

    lcfranks recommends this,

Really enjoyed this 20-25 minute train ride along the river / lake just near Downtown Austin. Kids loved it. We saw about 20 turtles swimming. You can only book tickets 30 minutes before (trains leave every 30 minutes and get sold out on weekends / holidays), but there is a great playground to kill time on while you are waiting.

THIS is what's great about growing up in Austin!

    colonelplink recommends this,

If you know, let it show below with a memory or two of the Zilker Park train!

For the others, the Zephyr is a real train, albeit about 4ft high and running on a lawnmower engine. It does, however, pull cars big enough for an adult and a child through Zilker Park on narrow-guage rails. Under the bridge where you can see the turtles, down the shoreline above the hike & bike trail, returning through the tunnel to Philosopher's Rock at Barton Springs, the Zephyr is high entertainment for anyone in Austin. The smell is said to remind one of hot dogs, but perhaps it's just the setting... There is no fonder memory for a native Austinite than this little green train. Now, if they could just get it to run to the airport!
