Lonely Planet review for Talkeetna Roadhouse

This venerable, colorful establishment has the best breakfasts in town. Half-orders are adequate; fulls are mountain-sized. The restaurant also doubles as a bakery, cooking up giant cinnamon rolls in the morning.

    Best for dining with tour groups

    babylonia does not recommend this,

    Stayed one night in the summer. Four of us in the bunk room and it was way too hot. We couldn't breath easily enough to get any sleep. At breakfast we received terrible, even mildlly snotty service, The staff made it clear they were concerned with the needs of only the large tour groups that had arrived for breakfast. They had nothing in place to ensure lodging guests could get a table for breakfast and they didn't want to be bothered by us. We did finally eat when the place emptied out right before we were about to leave, and the food was excellent.

    Good Bread

    The food is good, cheap and hearty, but the breads and baked goods are outstanding. It's worth it to buy a couple of loaves for the road. This place is a must stop if you are in the Talkeetna area and need baked goods, which can happen more often than you might think.
