Hitchhiking is more difficult on the Steese Hwy than on Chena Hot Springs Rd, though people this far north are good about stopping. Still, you have to consider your time schedule and patience level before attempting this road.

You can try renting a vehicle in Fairbanks, but you'll have to go with a company that permits driving on gravel roads. If you want to fly, Warbelow's Air Ventures (474-0518, 800-478-0812; www.warbelows.com), in Fairbanks, has regular flights to Circle for $196 round trip.
