Smack downtown and full of historic ambience, this hotel can be a real bargain. It's within walking distance to many Seward attractions, including the Alaska SeaLife Center and the start of the Historic Iditarod Trail.
Rooms in the new wing are large, with Resurrection Bay-facing windows and Victorian-themed decor. The decoration can be a bit cheesy, and the lobby is definitely overdoing it in the taxidermy department, but even an electric fireplace is cozier than no fireplace. The historic wing has been recently updated, and rooms there feel a bit more authentic. They're also less expensive, especially the ones with shared bathrooms. Off the lobby, a new Gold-rush-themed bar opened in 2008. It's intimate and a nice place to enjoy a cocktail and appetizer.
