Getting there & around

There are daily northbound and southbound flights with Alaska Airlines (772-4255, 800-426-0333). The airport is on Haugen Dr, a mile east of the post office.

The Alaska Marine Highway ferry terminal (772-3855) is about a mile south of downtown. Travelers heading north to Juneau might consider taking the MV Le Conte if it suits their schedule. This ship sails from Petersburg to Juneau ($58, 27 hours, one weekly) but stops at Kake, Angoon and Hoonah and Tenakee Springs along the way.

In 2006, the new MV Stikine is slated to be in operation, connecting Coffman Cove on Prince of Wales Island with Wrangell and Petersburg.

Scandia House (772-4281, 800-722-5006; www.scandiahousehotel.com; 110 Nordic Dr) rents midsize cars for $52 a day and boats for $160. Nordic House (772-3620; www.nordichouse.net; 806 S Nordic Dr) rents bicycles for $10 a day.
