Girdwood Getting there & around

Getting there & away

Although the fare is steep, you could hop on the Alaska Railroad (265-2494; www.akrr.com) in Anchorage for a day trip to Girdwood (one way adult/child $49/25). On its way to Seward, the Coastal Classic train arrives at Girdwood at 8am daily during the summer and again at 9pm for the return journey to Anchorage.

Seward Bus Lines (563-0800; www.sewardbuslines.net) can arrange transport to Seward and Anchorage, while Homer Stage Line (868-3914; www.homerstageline.com) can arrange transportation throughout the Kenai Peninsula. You might also call Magic Bus (268-6311; www.themagicbus.com), an accommodating charter-bus service that will handle groups as small as four and always will take independents on any booked run to Girdwood.
