On the Riverboat with Princess Cruises
Blog: Canada's Adventure Couple - 17 June 2010
The sun didn’t set by the time we turned in at 10:30pm on our first day of our Princess Cruise. We are in the land of the Midnight Sun after all and we are approaching the longest day of the year. Ice sculpting underwent a renaissance in interior Alaska in 1988 when organizers decided to revive the spirit of the 1930’s winter carnivals by flying in ice sculptors in from around the world for an [...] This is just a content summary, please click through for the remainder and, of course, the photographs.

World’s great winter festivals
Blog: Lonely Planet blog - 18 January 2010
A cold winter is the rat of seasons. It always appears and most of us greet it with irritation, contempt, whining, even fear. Shouldn’t be the case. Vancouver’s showing off winter fun at the Olympics next month, and even away from ski slopes (or luge tracks), some places save their biggest events for the chilliest [...]

Alaska Begins
Blog: The Road Chose Me - 50,000kms of ebb and flow - 8 July 2009
My hitchhiker and I parted ways and I continued on the road north to Fairbanks. My first mechanical issue came in the form of a rusty screw in a tire – getting it patched was easy but it turned out one of the lug nuts was cross-threaded and had to be snapped before I could [...]
