Getting there & around
Alaska Airlines (907-474-0481, 800-252-7522; www.alaskaair.com) has nine daily flights to Anchorage with occasional bargains. Frontier Flying Service (907-450-7200, 800-478-6779; www.frontierflying.com) also flies to Anchorage as well as throughout Arctic Alaska.
Rent-A-Wreck (907-452-1606, 800-478-1606; 2105 S Cushman St) will rent you a compact for $39 a day.
Alaska Direct Bus Lines (800-770-6652; www.alaskadirectbusline.com) runs from Fairbanks to Tok ($70, five hours) where you can pick up a bus to Whitehorse ($180, 15 hours). Alaska/Yukon Trails (800-770-7275; www.alaskashuttles.com) offers daily connections to Denali National Park ($46, 2½ hours) and Anchorage ($91, eight hours). It also services Dawson City ($162, 10 hours).
The Alaska Railroad (800-544-0552; www.akrr.com) departs at 8:15am daily for Denali National Park ($54, three hours) and Anchorage ($179, 12 hours).
The Metropolitan Area Commuter Service (907-459-1011) provides a local, weekday bus service (single fare/day pass $1.50/3).
