    Sin City Rollergirls

    Auto racing at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway isenormously popular, especially during Nascar Weekend in March. The premier rodeoevent of the year is the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, held every December. UNLV Runnin’ Rebels college football and basketball teams enjoy a patriotic local following. With a googly-eyed alien mascot, the minor-league Las Vegas 51s baseballteam, a franchise of the MLB Toronto Blue Jays, plays home games from late April through August.     Riverbank State Park

    This modern 28-acre, five-building facility, perched atop a waste refinery (not as crazy as it sounds), has an indoor Olympic-size pool, an outdoor lap pool, a fitness room, basketball courts, tennis courts, a running track around a soccer field, a kids’ area and a roller-skating rink (with ice skating from November to March).

    University of Washington Huskies

    The University of Washington Huskies football and basketball teams are another Seattle obsession. The Huskies football team plays at Husky Stadium; you’ll find the men’s and women’s basketball teams at the Edmundson Pavilion, both of which are on campus. The women’s basketball team draws massive crowds.

    Aspen Recreation Center

    Aspen is justifiably proud of its recreation center, which is loaded with facilities including pools and hot tubs, an ice rink and a climbing wall. Its Aspen Youth Center runs craft sessions, parties and other activities for kids aged eight to 18; summer fun includes roller hockey and skateboarding.

    San Francisco Croquet Club

    Think croquet is a thing of childhood, backyard parties and Sunday picnics? Think again. These folks are hardcore about their wickets, but manage not to take themselves too seriously. Nonmembers can join free sessions on the first three Saturdays of the month; kids are always welcome.

    Near Central Park, the West Side Y – one of 20 YMCAs in the Big Apple – boasts two swimming pools, an indoor running track, a basketball court, five racquetball/squash courts and a big weight room. Membership is $89 monthly (with a $125 initiation fee).

    Feel the need for speed? Head 30 miles west of town to Miller Motorsports Park, where you can take a lesson and get behind the wheel of a 325 horsepower Mustang GT race model. Book ahead. Utah Jazz’ own Larry Miller opened the raceway in 2006.

    In mid-June, the raucous Motorcycle Week draws two-wheeled crowds to the New Hampshire International Speedway, south of Laconia. Races, shows and other spectacles create quite a scene. Bikers are everywhere.

    If you just want to knock a bucket of balls around, this driving range in Lincoln Park will let you whack away to your heart’s content. Rental clubs are available, and a bucket of 50 balls costs $9.
