Short-notice budget accommodations on St. John

Hey all... A buddy and I are hoping to head to St. John Feb. 10-17, 2015. We've just formulated plans but are having trouble finding inexpensive accommodations. We don't need to be near the beach and are simply looking for a house, villa, or studio with 2 clean beds, clean sheets and linens, hopefully a small kitchen, and no frills...<= $125/night. Any recommendations from y'all?

Thanks for the help!

Finding Cheap Rum Drinks in St. Thomas

The USVI are a pricey trip - but not for everything. Accommodations and transportation run the highest yet alcohol can be found on the cheaper side. I know many travelers visit trying not to spend all their money at the beach bar or drinking although that might be a very enjoyable factor.

I found Rum Bones - which is located right in downtown Charlotte Amalie of St. Thomas by the waterfront, one block off Main Street. It's locally brewed rum, you try free samples with their dacquiris - bannana,…

Chikungunya - St. Thomas

I am no expert, but the word from longtime friends on St. Thomas is that this virus is more of a problem than dengue has been in the past. Nasty, and effecting not only the neighbors of the eastern lagoons, but island wide. Inquiries to tourist related interests may not be the real deal. Just sayin'. By the way, since it is a tongue twister, they call it i chimichuri and chicken gumbo

Camping in RV south of Anchorage

We're doing a 7-day cruise from Vancouver to Whittier, then going to Anchorage for the night. The next morning, 8th June, we're hiring the smallest RV we could find (25) for five days (four nights), before doing another 7-day cruise from Seward to Vancouver. We decided on a RV because it gave us the greatest flexibility (and was easier and cheaper than finding accommodation at this late stage). We plan to spend the first day driving to Denali, and the second day doing the Wonder Lake shuttle…

St Thomas in Sept 2013

Let me begin by saying that I used to live in St Thomas and a LOT has changed in 10 years. Evidently the local economy is still recovering from the hurricane in 2005. I picked up a Lonely Planet book published in Sept 2011 and was disappointed with it's accuracy...and yes, I took into account that it was off season.

~ Marina Market in Red Hook has been closed down permanently.

~ Paradise Point Skyride was shut down for repairs. (probably seasonal)
~ Greenhouse did NOT have a DJ for ladies'…

USVI - General Info

My husband and I will be visiting the USVI for 6 days in November. This will be our first time there. I've read some alarming stuff about safety in St Thomas on some previous posts, although most of those posts were outdated. We are no strangers to traveling abroad and live in an urban city. Can anybody offer some updated info on safety in St. Thomas?

We fly into St. Thomas on a Wednesday. We haven't made our hotel reservations yet as we're still weighing the pros and cons of St. Thomas vs. St.…
