I'm headed to Uruguay next week (from Buenos Aires), arriving on Monday and leaving on Thursday. I have a hotel reservation in Montevideo for the three nights, but would love any input on how to make the most of a short stay in Uruguay. I'm not particularly interested in Colonia, but I figured that I might as well visit for a few hours since it's so nearby. I was planning to get the Buquebus to Colonia from Buenos Aires and then a bus onwards to Montevideo. Is that a decent plan or would it be…
We are picking up our hire car in Colonia on day 1. Is Carmelo worth the visit before we head back to Colonia to spend the day, or would we be better staying around Col Del Sacramento?
We have night 1 booked in Colonia, and that's all for now.
Nights 2, 3, and 4 can be spent wherever we want, as long as night 5 is spent in Montevideo. Rental car has to be dropped off at the Airport on day 6 and we have an early flight.
Does anyone have any particular routes to drive on? Towns to visit/stay…
Can someone offer a good itinerary? The thought of a long train ride up and/or down Chile sounds exciting. I promised my kid, I'd take her to see wild penguins (either country is ok) and we want to see some pretty cities in Argentina and Uruguay. I traveled for ten years through 32 countries on 5 continents (with my dog Monster) but now I'm a family man and can't hitch-hike around anymore. Now safety is my biggest priority :) So if anyone knows prices of trains and local airlines that can…
I'll be flying to PA this September and then going all the way to Colonia, to get the ferry to Buenos Aires. I have around 15 days to get to Colonia, and was thinking how to organise my itinerary. The general plan was to spend a couple of days in PA, then take a bus maybe to Rio Grande, spend a day there, then off to Chuy and from there slowly proceed to destination. Any ideas?
Some qualifications. I like pretty much everything, from big cities to small villages, from urban…
Good Morning Everyone, :)
My partner and I are looking at hiring a car in BA and driving from there to Uruguay before exploring Uruguay (Colonia del Sacramento, Montevideo, Piriapolis and Punta Ballena and Punta del Este (hopefully for New Years!))
We were wondering how much should we take for this and any tips of what to do for new years?!
Also any rental car suggestions would be fantastic!
Thank you :)
Has anyone seen any penguins on the coast of Uruguay in winter? I will be going there next month (July) and am hoping to see some. I have read that they can be seen in Cabo Polonio, but are they elsewhere as well?
I have just been informed that I will be vacationing in Montevideo for 7 days in early August. I love eating, drinking, and cultural stuff; what/where do you suggest I eat/drink/get some culture during my 7 days?
Does anyone know the schedule or frequency for bus departures from Salto, Uruguay to Concordia, Argentina???
This is what I have for weekday ferry departures: from Salto; 9; 45, 11; 15, 13; 00, 16; 00, 19; 30 Uruguayan time
Also, no departures at all on Sunday.
Anyone know what a taxi should cost, just in case???
During our stay in UR we were not able to withdraw any money from an ATM with our Mastercard ("Maestro", "Cirrus"). Take enough USD for your stay. You can easily exchange them at any Cambio or Bank. Hotels usually accept payment in USD . You can buy bus tickets with credit card. Change your ARS into UYU in Buenos Aires. Even a bad rate in AR will be better than what you get in UR!
