The 4th edition of our Ukraine guide was published in May 2014. Due to the dramatic changes that have taken place in Ukraine since this book was sent to the printer (the Euromaidan protests and the annexation of Crimea), we have produced a special update for travellers, as an addendum for the guidebook. You can download it here.
This update was written after the author's visit to Ukraine in April 2014 and it includes a new chapter as well as the corrected pages from the guidebook.
Will be returning to Odessa in August but will have a car with me this time and need a safe place to leave it. Many of the apartments I'm looking at do not offer a dedicated spot and I'm a little weary of parking on the street.
Can anyone recommend any secure guarded parking lots in Odessa and how much I should expect to pay?
Anyone got any recent info on the situation in say Donetsk? News flow seems to have gone quiet, BBC has a clip a few days old, but is distinctly unimaginative, could have been shot/reported anytime in the last year, and is very unclear in determining who is doing what.
Sometimes you have to go, to filter out some truth from propaganda. Or not.
First time to Kiev. I plan to travel there in December 2016 for 3 weeks. I am seeking an affordable place to stay that is close to the subway and popular sites (cathedrals, museums, theatre).
Hi, I recently read about the prevalence of "hipster" flea markets in Kiev similar to those found in Berlin. This article: http://www.politico.eu/article/kievs-hipster-revolution-russia-ukraine-culture/ states one called "Kiev Market" which is supposedly the most popular.
However, I tried googling it but can't find details on the schedule or where this market may be located.
Does anyone know where I can find details of hipster flea markets in Kiev?
Just returned from an independent solo trip to Ukraine with no knowledge of Ukrainian language or the Cyrillic alphabet. I flew to Kiev and Odessa and made a day trip to Chernihiv from Kiev.
All flights with UIA - no problems, announcements repeated in English. I used the Skybus (also labelled no. 322)to and from Kiev Boryspil airport (fare 60 UAH)always a bus parked outside arrivals (and outside station to go to airport)but it took sometime for the bus to actually move anywhere just seemed to…
Here is the Scam I was victim of in Odessa in July 2015.
I had bought a bus ticket a day before my trip from Odessa to Chisinau, Moldova. Showed up at the bus station well before the departure time. While waiting at the bus stand, I was approached by two policemen who took me to the left luggage area in the basement. My bags were searched and not finding whatever they were looking for, I was let go.
I went back to the bus stand and waited for my bus. When the bus did not arrive 15 minus past…
I might use UIA to fly from Munich to Tbilisi in the context of a two weeks family trip in May and might make a stopover in Kiev in the process. A couple of questions:
How good and safe are UIA?
How much time should I allocate to Kiev - would two full days suffice to see the city highlights?
Are there any unsafe areas in Kiev I should avoid?
