The 4th edition of our Ukraine guide was published in May 2014. Due to the dramatic changes that have taken place in Ukraine since this book was sent to the printer (the Euromaidan protests and the annexation of Crimea), we have produced a special update for travellers, as an addendum for the guidebook. You can download it here.
This update was written after the author's visit to Ukraine in April 2014 and it includes a new chapter as well as the corrected pages from the guidebook.
Notwithstanding the process of getting a 'special permit' from the Ukrainian MFA in addition to a Russian visa, or the wisdom of visiting the occupied Crimea, how difficult would it be to enter Crimea from the Ukrainian mainland? The route I'm looking at is catching the overnight train from Kiev to Novooleksiivka, then a bus/taxi to the Chonhar border crossing, and then another bus/taxi onwards to Dzankoi, Simferopol, etc.
Has anyone been to Crimea from the Ukrainian side since the annexation…
I'm looking for Kyiv-based travel journalists or bloggers who write in English, so just thought I'd try here in case anyone like that is active on the forum or can recommend someone they know. Thanks beforehand!
I am already beginning to think of a return to Ukraine next year and checking out some historical sites concerning the early rulers of Kyiv as they are distant ancestors of mine. I find there is a statue of Prince Mal in Korosten which would be no problem getting to, but was wonder in if Zaporizhia (which is he site where King Svyatoslav was ambushed) and not being exact as where the fighting in the east is happening if this was in a safe area to visit. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Ukraine…
Hello all knowing people,
My Korean boss approved my request for vacation, saying "Aah very good. You take rest. You not work"
This means that I'm free from January 19-29.
I was kind of set on going to Portugal(Lisbon and Porto), but for some unknown reason I'm suddenly REALLY intrigued with Ukraine. However, a little voice in the back of my head keeps on telling me it will be freezing and not enjoyable.
What do you people say?
If I do decide to go I'll probably split my time between Kiev (with…
We just finished up a magical month in Ukraine :) One of the highlights for me and a major reason for us going was to visit Chernobyl. After researching for hours and eventually making a choice I went with Solo-East and had a blast! Such an interesting part of world history and soon it's all going to be gone. Ukraine and Chernobyl should definetly be everyone's bucket list!
So you don't have to go through the hours of research we've put together this guide for visiting Chernobyl…

I'm an Australia on a bike tour and I'm trying to plan a route. At the moment I'm thinking of catching a ferry from Poli, Georgia, to Ilyichevsk, Ukraine, and I'm wondering about applying for my Ukraine visa. Applying at the Consulate in Australia they say it can take between 15 - 30 days to process... Does anyone have any idea of what it is like to apply for a visa from Georgia and how long the process might take?
I'm from China, and planning to visit Ukraine at the end of this month, and get a VOA at KBP airport. After visit Ukraine, I'm planning to go all the way done to Romania and Bulgaria by coach via Chisinau, Moldova.
My question is that can I apply for a Moldova transit visa in Odessa, and how long does it take to get a visa?
I find no information about apply Moldova visa from Odessa to Bucharest, but only from Bucharest to Odessa.
I entered Ukraine in mid-July, and received a Visa on Arrival (VOA) and thought it might be helpful to fellow Aussies (and New Zealanders) to hear about this process.
Firstly, please don't assume that a VOA in Ukraine is the same as VOA in other countries (such as Cambodia, Indonesia, Philippines, Egypt etc). It's not available 24 hours a day - it's just open regular office hours, so closes at 6.00pm, or sometimes 7.00pm or 8.00pm. I've also heard that it's often closed on weekends. Do take…
