Lonely Planet review for Itaka

Slightly downmarket and often rowdy (in a good way). The Greek columns and statues are a tad much, but you’ll hardly care when it’s 5am and you are out of your gourd. It draws big regional pop acts.

    Itaka lost its touch, continous trying to scam foreigners

    I absolutely love travelling former CIS countries including the fablous nightlife in many of these countries. I know how things work in most nightclubs and usually I can make clear pretty fast that I am willing to spend money but that I am not to be lifted and this is usually quickly accepted. I have been to Itaka 2 years ago and remember it as an excellent nightclub. Returning this year I could see the quality in decay, the only goal of the waitresses seemed to be to lude us in to buying extremely overpriced drinks, despite checking everything they ordered they managed to get a 100 euro plate of fruit on our bill at the end of the night. After a hour of discussion that there wasn't even a 100 euro plate of food in the menu, they explained we got a combination of fruit, after asking for a detailed bill, we got a list of fruit that we didn't get and a total weight of over 2,5 kg. We refused to pay and were made pretty clear by 15 guards, 2 police officers that closed of the sight to the street that it was better for us to pay.We chose our health above 100 euro and decided to pay up.

    On top of this the level of service was far below what I am used to be treated in a top end nightclub (their price level is definatly higher then night clubs in Kiev Lviv that I visited and that did belong to the top line). We had a private table booked and unknown girls where trying to sit at our table or store their handbags at our table (even though we indicated not be interested), the security nor waitresses acted at all on this behavior. To top it off a group of guys started hanging in front of our table wearing singlets and 3/4 jeans and sneakers, while the signs outside clearly indicated that face control was active.

    Several of the performances where absolute shit, I felt like sitting in a turkish all in resort serving stupid western tourists. This had absolutly nothing to do with the quality level I am used to in Ukrain and orher CIS country nightclubs.

    The only thing I can say is that when we visited on thursday the club was reasonable (altough not excellent), on monday it was absolute shit.
