Pervak
Lonely Planet review for Pervak
Pervak Kyiv’s best Ukrainian restaurant masterfully creates old Kyiv (c 1900) without falling into the schmaltz trap that dogs many a Ukrainian theme resto. The chefs boldly prepare original takes on Ukrainian classics, which are adroitly delivered to tables by waitresses in frilly, cleavage-bearing country outfits. There’s nightly live music and black-and-white silent movies playing on old Soviet TVs.

We were robbed of our cash. Do NOT go here.
paname does not recommend this,
How we were robbed: I wanted to keep our stuff - jackets, cameras, scarfs etc - with us, but the waiter insisted that we hang everything up. I told him again, "no, I am keeping my things here", upon which he literally took my jacket from me and put it on a hanger. He said we had perfect view of it and that he'd make sure nothing happened to it. One hour later, during which I always kept one eye on our stuff, I went to get my wallet. It was there, but all the cash - around 200 € - was gone. I started questionning everybody (kind of lost my control here, I must admit) but nobody spoke English. (I do speak some Russian, but firstly it is not the first language in Ukraine, secondly my level is not that good.)
The police came bc my girlfriend wanted to write a report, but of course that wouldn't change anything. When we gave up and decided to leave, the waiter ran up to us with the bill. We couldn't believe it. Not only had the resaturant - whether it was the waiter or a guest - robbed us of 200 €; now they wanted us to pay the bill. With the police present, we couldn't really argue with the restaurant (even though I was about to explode in anger, as you probably understand) because the police obviously took the restaurant's side.
Notwithsanding the robbery, it was still an uncharming, distasteful restaurant with mediocre cuisine.
