This grand Soviet lady on pl Evropeiska keeps shedding her skin, undergoing renovations that keep shucking off the old tacky stuff and installing classic Western-style low-level elegance.
Because the crowd here is often comprised of foreign businesspeople, there are actually nonsmoking floors (a real anomaly in these parts), and the stiff staff speak English pretty well. The cheapest rooms still have older but good quality Soviet furniture, but bathrooms have been Westernised. Most rooms have balconies - some with views of the square. You'll also have free access to a small pool, sauna and fitness club in the morning (after which it'll cost you). All in all, the Dnipro's longstanding reputation and super-central location keep it going quite successfully, despite its overpriced rooms.
