Simferopol hotels and hostels
Ukraina Hotel Simferopol
Hotel Valencia
Fusing Crimea and Spain, this centrally located, friendly and well-run hotel is justifiably popular, so book ahead. The sole windowless 'economy' single goes for just 150uah, but without air-con it's uncomfortable in summer.
Turbaza Tavriya
This tranquil, hillside place is popular, despite being a bit far from the centre. It is, however, convenient for Neopolis. Marshrutky 15 and 17 go here from pl Sovetskaya. Breakfast is included.
Hotel Moskva
Under the same management as Ukraina, this Soviet-period high-rise by the central bus station is a popular escape for those who can't find a decent room in the centre.
Hotel Ukraina
Admittedly, the baroque public areas of this central, forward-thinking hotel are a bit OTT, but rooms are restrained and well finished – the standard class in sandy ochre and red-earth tones.
Soma Youth Hostel
About 15 minute by marshrutka from the centre, this typical semi-clandestine Western-run hostel was operating here in summer 2010. Cheap guided tours of Crimea's southern coast were on offer.
