The 4th edition of our Ukraine guide was published in May 2014. Due to the dramatic changes that have taken place in Ukraine since this book was sent to the printer (the Euromaidan protests and the annexation of Crimea), we have produced a special update for travellers, as an addendum for the guidebook. You can download it here.
This update was written after the author's visit to Ukraine in April 2014 and it includes a new chapter as well as the corrected pages from the guidebook.
We should like to see the Danube biosphere at Wilkowo in September/October.
We plan to book a day tour from Odesa, but stay for the night at Wilkowo.
Has anyone experience if we can go back to Odesa next day by bus or marshrutka or taxi?
Hi! In august I will make a combined trip to Krakow, Lviv and Przemysl by train. My plan is 2 nights (1 full day) in Krakow*, 4 nights in Lviv (3 full days) and 1 night (a half day) in Przemysl. Anyone who has been to Lviv who can tell if its worth 2 or 3 days? In some cities, like Krakow, Vienna, Budapest and Prague, 3 full days were perfect, while in others, Vilnius and Bucharest, 3 full days was a little bit too much.
Is there as much to see and do in Lviv as in say Krakow? Any interesting…
My partner and I are considering traveling to Kiev next year. I have been advised by an individual from there that it is not safe and the political / economic situation is unstable.
Is Kiev safe and easy to get around for English speaking tourists?
Hello fellow travellers,
Next month I want to visit the Nuclear Missile Museum near Pervomaysk. It seems to be a struggle to get there and away within a day if one wants to avoid a tour group from Kiev.
I am considering making a 2-days trip from Kiev to Pervomaysk - going down to Pervomaysk on day A - and visiting the museum and returning to Kiev on day B.
Does anybody know if there is reasonably priced accomodation in or near Pervomaysk?
Shall be landing on Zaporizhzhya airport from Kiev and would like to know how far (kilometers) the airport is from the city center? Are Uber taxis readily available at Zaporizhzhya airport please?
When I go to order train tickets and reserve a seat in the 2nd class compartments....how do I know which is the bottom and top berths. If I want one on the bottom is it the two lower numbers in the compartment or the two higher numbers. Thanks much. I will start ordering in about twelve to twenty hours from now for my ticket (45 days in advance)
I was looking the ticket price from Kiev (Kyiv) to Moscow (Moskva) and found this:
Prices are for July/2017
Trains second class sleeper Price: 3.300 UAH
a) PKP Denysivka-Plus Price: 500 UAH stop in Moscow at “Teply San”
b) OOO Turist Price: 550 UAH stop in Mosow at “Navoyasenevskaya”
c) MoskiTrans Price: 577,5 UAH stop in Moscow at “Krasnogvardiejskaya”
So, bus is way cheaper than train, considering I don´t mind travelling on a sitting bus for 16 hours
I have some…
I was wondering about another question that may seem somewhat stupid as I know what most would choose....but after Kyiv I have a choice of two possibilities before heading back to Odesa and my flight home. One would be to spend a couple of days in Lviv, which I have never done before. The other would be to go to Zaporizhzhia, the reason being is that I would like to visit that island there because one of my ancient ancestors named Svyntoslav was said to have been killed…
