  1. Tracking mountain gorillas is a once in a lifetime experience. The Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is in the south-western pocket of Uganda - right on the border to Rwanda and Congo. The beautiful nature reserve is on UNESCO's world heritage list and is home to some 330 mountain gorillas - roughly half of the world's total population. (2009)

  2. There are around 700 mountain gorillas surviving today. All of them live in central African nature reserves on the border between Congo, Rwanda and Uganda. By far the biggest threat to our highly endangered genetic cousins comes from humans clearing forests - poor farmers seeking firewood or a little more land to grow crops. But In a remote corner of Uganda, sustainable eco-tourism is starting to help both the local community and mountain gorillas. (2009)
