Does anyone know a nice tour company that can arrange a round trip tour from Gaudan (Iran/Turkmenistan border) to Derweze gas crater, including a Turkmenistan visa, in a reasonable price.
We were first planning to go by ourselves using the Turkmenistan transit visa, but it seems not possible because we are not actually transiting through Turkmenistan.
It would be very helpful if someone can share us your experiences. Thanks.
organized through travelnotoria
itinerary: Kunya Urgench - Dervaza crater - Ashgabad - Yangikala - Mary
duration: 10 days, end of october 2014
price: appr. 110$ pperson and day (for two)
Plus: Travelnotoria organized the itinerary just the way we wanted
Minus: The tour involved lots of long drives. If we had done the trip on our own we probably would have included more unplanned breaks. That we didn't do so was because of Turkmenistan's strict visa rules.
Regrets: Should have…
Anyone recently took the boat from Turkmenbashi to Baku? Was there a daily departure? Tickets, schedule and customs...any information is much appreciated!
I will be on transit visa.
I plan to go in turkmenistan as soon as possible (depends on visa… but i hope the beginning of october) and i would like to know if we MUST have a guide to travel inside turkmenistan with a touristic visa.
POssible to travel alone ? and find agencies for small trip ?
I have contacted an agency (travel nora that seems much people in this forum know) to do a really nice 8-9 days trip including darvaza, mud volcanoes, desert, yangkala canyon, caves etc… but not ashgabat and merv. I am…
Allright, first of all I would like to say that you might be able to make this whole trip within two days. This means
that you will be able to see the fire craters. I did not know this beforehand, so it took me 4 days.
In all hotels you pay with dollars, so make sure you have plenty of them.
You can start in Mashad. A weird, funky city with one budget hotel (wich costs about 35 dollars). I forgot
the name of it. Damn
From Mashad you can take a bus straight to Turkmenbashi. It leaves around…
Hello all, This year I traveled from Iran to Kazakhstan through Turkmenistan. I thought it might be a good Idea to write what I know about how to get a Turkmen transit visa in Iran.
First of all, when applying for a transit visa, dont bother with the Stantours stuff and just go to on of the consulates in Mashad or Teheran. Note that both consulates have different opening dates and times. The one in Teheran is open from sunday to (and including) thursday. The one in Mashad is open from tueseday…

Day 2: Day trip with car/driver to sites in/around Ashgabat (Independence Park, Constitution Monument, Neutrality Tower, Serdar Health Path, Wedding Palace, Ferris Wheel, etc.). "Night tour" of Ashgabat. Overnight in Ashgabat (Paytagt Hotel).

My flight arrives Sunday, Aug 31 and I depart Wednesday, Sept 3. I got my tourist visa through Stan Tours and will spend a few nights in Ashgabat. The US State Dept. states registration is only required if staying more the 3 working days. I will not. StanTours asked me to give my passport and two photos to register when I arrive at hotel. Does anybody know for certain if I need to register? I would prefer to have my passport with me at all times, although it would not be good if I were…
I will enter Turkmenistan with a 5-day Transit Visum in Ashgabat and leave via Konya Urgench. The lp suggests that one can hire a taxi (not shared but just me) and that e.g. the cost for Ashgabat to Mary are just 80 M (and it takes 3.5hrs only). Has anybody tested this? Are price and time real? And where would I find that taxi? I (would also like to hire a taxi just for myself from Ashgabat to Konya-Urgench. Would that also be manageable? Any response highly appreciated!
