Fethiye: The All New Yengen - It's Kebab Time
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 29 May 2012
There's no doubt that Fethiye is a town (or should that be 'boutique city'?) in transition. From the creation of a harbour where there were once reeds, to the building of a new Fethiye town square, to the pedestrianisation of the Dispanser area.

Ölüdeniz: The Belcekiz Beach VIP Area - Would You Use It?
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 14 May 2012
Each year, at the beginning of the summer season, resorts in the Fethiye area usually reveal a few changes for the season ahead. Last year, we went over to Ölüdeniz to have a look at the new grassy areas that had been planted up. A kiddies play park and a few benches had also been added to the Belcekiz Beach area and all was looking fresh and smart.

Fethiyespor Backdrop: A Photo - And A Round-Up
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 25 March 2012
Well, we know we keep going on about it, but after such a cold, wet winter, we really are enjoying the Fethiye sunshine that we've been blessed with over the last few days. It's been too nice to stay indoors and so, after a couple of months of going stare crazy while gazing out of the window and wondering when the rain would stop, for the last few days it's been on with the t-shirts and out into the open - and what a great feeling that is.

Fethiye And Istanbul - The Two Loves In Our Life
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 21 March 2012
As you're no doubt aware by now, we have been taking part in a competition over on the foXnoMad website where we nominated Fethiye as the Best City to Visit in 2012. Quite fitting too that Istanbul - the best city in the world? - is also in the competition. Our two favourite places, one where we choose to live and the other where we choose to visit as often as time and budget permit, are the representatives of Turkey. Fethiye and Istanbul are also the two most written about places on our blog.

Fethiye Photo: Karagözler Vista
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 16 March 2012
Last Friday's Fethiye photo was the first photograph in this series of Ölü Deniz. It was a long wait, and so we chose our favourite photo of Olü Deniz, taken from the first stretch of the Lycian Way. For today's Fethiye photo, we're coming a bit closer to home and into Fethiye itself.

A Vote For Fethiye Is A Vote For Turkey Too
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 14 March 2012
Today's post is a rally cry, a call to action, a desperate plea; call it what you will. We're asking for your help, please. Many of you will know already that a couple of weeks back, we entered Fethiye into the Best City To Visit Travel Tournament 2012 and yesterday, voting opened in the last 16.

Ölüdeniz From The Lycian Way: A Photo
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 9 March 2012
Friday is here again. The weeks pass by so quickly and it doesn't seem seven days since we were announcing our new look Facebook page by way of a screenshot containing a photo of Fethiye. But that was last week - and this week we have a first for 2012...

Turkish Food - Camel Sausage
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 5 February 2012
Today was the 2nd Karaçulha Camel Wrestling Festival, just up the road from where we live. With just a 10 TL entrance fee and proceeds going towards the local school, we would have been negligent not to go again. Last year, we entered the 'arena' (read 'spare land') with trepidation and a little excitement at being able to witness an Aegean Turkish tradition we had never before seen.

Datça Peninsula: Palamutbükü 8 Years On
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 24 January 2012
A little over 8 years ago, we were taken on a road trip to the Datça Peninsula for a short break with friends. It was November and Datça was deserted and beautiful. Just about everywhere we visited was closed up for the winter months, but we didn't mind as we were there to chill out for a few days and enjoy the solitude.

Hotels In Fethiye & Turkey
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 29 December 2011
A little claim to fame and some good news for Fethiye this morning as Trip Advisor placed the town on its list of 'destinations on the rise.' Whether that means the whole Fethiye region or just the town itself, we're not sure - but it's still nice to wake up to when a sizeable bunch of your friends rely on good tourist numbers in order to make a living. We'll see what the season brings.

Fethiye Weather - Four December Photos
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 22 December 2011
It's a question everyone asks: What's the weather like in Fethiye in _____? (Insert month). We all know July and August are scorchers on the Southwest coast of Turkey and rain or cloud is very rare. Spring and autumn are pleasant - our favourite time of year in fact - and winter can be anything from mild and sunny to stormy to just downright cold.

Datça Peninsula - Exploring Knidos
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 14 December 2011
When a friend asked us if we fancied a weekend on the Datça Peninsula a couple of weeks back, we jumped at the chance. After our long weekend in Istanbul in October, we thought our 2011 travels in Turkey were through.

Travelling Turkey - Our Favourite Posts of 2011
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 12 December 2011
December is whizzing by and we're careering headlong towards 2012, so we thought we'd do what everyone else does at this time of year and take a look back at 12 of our favourite posts of 2011; one for each month.

Fethiye to Kayaköy: A Winter Afternoon Walk
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 10 December 2011
A few days ago, we were going to Cin Bal in Kayaköy for a bit of a leaving do for a friend. She'd never been before and was determined to try lamb tandır before she left. There were ten of us going and arrangements were going backwards and forwards about how we were getting there. We'll get the dolmuş. I might drive. Can we come with you if you drive?

Çalış Christmas Fayre - Colours Of The Day
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 4 December 2011
Last December, the 2010 Çalış Christmas Fayre was drenched with torrential rain and it was only a few brave soles that attempted to set up stall and a few brave soles that attempted to take part and join in the fun.

Our Datça Holiday - The Village of Yazıköy
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 2 December 2011
The Datça Peninsula; wild, windy and just stunningly beautiful. That's the impression we came back to Fethiye with last Monday after spending the weekend there with friends. It's 8 years since we were last on this amazing stretch of land that juts out into the Mediterranean/Aegean Sea and, to be honest, while we remembered enjoying its beauty, we had forgotten how truly special it is.

Google+ - For Lovers of Fethiye & Turkey
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 8 November 2011
Well, what a day it's been. The virtual world of all that is online is constantly changing and as time goes by, it only seems to be picking up speed rather than settling down into a more relaxed pace of life.

Famished in Phaselis
Blog: The Turkish Life - 8 October 2011
Schedules may often be more like suggestions, "no"s may sometimes mysteriously turn into "yes"es, and procedures may change from day to day, but if there's anything you can count on in Turkey, it's that there will be a dolmuş (private minibus) going where you want to go, and that when you get there, someone will be selling something to eat.

Cellular confusion
Blog: The Turkish Life - 5 October 2011
Despite their many and long-held animosities, Turkey and Greece have a lot in common. Not that either of them would admit it. When I visited Athens a few years ago, people often stiffened noticeably when we told them we were from Istanbul, and then insisted we absolutely must try "Greek baklava," "Greek coffee," or "Greek kebab" -- all of which tasted pretty much exactly like their Turkish counterparts.

Up the stairs and back in time
Blog: The Turkish Life - 3 October 2011
With its clean-swept sandstone steps and lush, well-tended foliage, this little neighborhood staircase could be located in any number of warm-climate, well-to-do communities around the world.

Day Trip from Fethiye: Saklıkent Gorge in Photos
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 3 October 2011
After the photo of the view along Karaçay, we promised photos of Saklıkent Gorge yesterday. Well, we're a day late, so to compensate, we've added a video too, just for good measure. Saklıkent Gorge, meaning Hidden City Gorge, really is a place that you just have to see for yourself because, no matter how many photos you take of these colossal cliff faces, it's impossible to capture their height and the sounds of the rapids gushing beneath you.

Kalkan Autumn Sunset
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 29 September 2011
To be honest, there aren't many signs in Fethiye yet that autumn is upon us. Swimming pools and sun loungers are still full of summer sunbathers, the leaves on the trees are still a vibrant green and the nights still mild. But in our heads, it's autumn.

Fethiye Weather: The End of Summer...For Us
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 22 September 2011
It's almost as if the Fethiye weather has synced itself with our daily life. As we said goodbye to our friends on Monday afternoon and began to wind down and return to a more normal existence, so the unseasonal September humidity finally gave in to the inevitable build up of electricity.

Dalyan Once More - A Perfect Last Day
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 20 September 2011
This is our remedy for those last-day-in-Turkey-blues. Yesterday, after a fortnight in Çalış, we had to take our friends back to Dalaman Airport for 3pm. Rather than them mope around in Fethiye, sulking at the thought of heading back to rainy Manchester and real life, we suggested hiring a car so we could set off early and spend the day in Dalyan.

Fethiye Cheap Eats: Mozaik Bahçe Meze Plate
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 8 September 2011
We seem to remember a while back, we started on a little quest to hunt out Fethiye's cheap eats. Remember that? Places where we can eat out for 10 lira and under. We wrote about the dürüm kebabs at Öz Gaziantep and the Sundial Burger at the Sundial Hotel amongst others.
