Beach sights in Mediterranean Coast

  1. A

    Konyaaltı Plajı

Neither of Antalya's two beaches have much to recommend them - at least not as far as silken sand nor paradise views are concerned. For a good dose of well-rounded beach culture amusement, head to Konyaaltı Plajı; it can be accessed by taking the tram to its final stop (Müze), and then walking further west and down the snaking road. Dolmuşes run from Fevzi Çakmak Caddesi to Lara Plajı, passing the aquapark.

    Büyük Çakıl Beach

For swimming, head for pretty Büyük Çakıl beach. It's clean and just 1.3km from the town centre. Although it's largely pebble-based, there's a few metres of sand at one end and offers free use of parasols and sun beds, as well as a shaded café.

  3. C

    Lara Plajı

Neither of Antalya's two beaches have much to recommend them - at least not as far as silken sand nor paradise views are concerned. Lara Plajı is your best bet for swimming; it's about 12km southeast of the centre.

  4. Ölüdeniz Tabiat Parkı

The Ölüdeniz Tabiat Parkı is a lovely place to while away a few hours on the beach with mountains soaring above you. It has been laid out with paths, showers, toilets and makeshift cafés.

  8. Beach & Lagoon

The beach is very much the centre of things here; it's at the bottom of the hill past the package-tour colonies of Ovacik and Hisarönü. Near the junction of the road with a jandarma post and opposite the PTT is the entrance to Ölüdeniz Tabiat Parkı and its lagoon, still a lovely place to while away a few hours on the beach with mountains soaring above you. There are showers, toilets and cafes.

  9. Beaches

Marmaris' beaches may be narrow and pebbly but you can actually swim in the city centre. Much nicer beaches, however, at İçmeler and Turunç, some 10km and 20km respectively to the southwest, can be reached by dolmuşes from outside the Tansaş Shopping Centre for TL2.50 and TL6. From May to October, water taxis also link the waterfront on either side of the Atatürk statue with İçmeler and Turunç (TL10, 45 minutes, every hour). The beach at Günlücek Park, a forest park reserve 3.5km southeast of Marmaris, is also accessible by dolmuş from outside Tansaş Shopping Centre.

  10. Beaches

Büyük Çakıl (Big Pebble) is a relatively clean beach about 1.5km from the town centre and Akçagerme Plajı is a public beach opposite the exit to Gökseki along the main road west to Kalkan. But the best idea is to hop on one of the water taxis in the harbour and head for one of three beaches on the peninsula opposite at Liman Ağzı (TL10).

  12. Beach

Backed by large sand dunes, this splendid 18km-long sandy beach is unique for the region. You can get here by following the road for a kilometre past the ruins, or by turning right at the Golden Pension and following the track waymarked with blue arrows, which heads for the sand dunes along the western side of the archaeological zone. Between late May and October, local minibuses (TL1.50) trundle down to the beach from the village.

On the beach, which is never crowded (even in the height of the season), you can rent umbrellas (TL4) and sunbeds (TL3) and there is a refreshment stand providing shade and sustenance. Depending on the season, parts of the beach are off-limits a…
