This very leafy place, with a terrace overlooking the harbour and a functioning ancient cistern, is a perennial favourite offering excellent service and traditional and inventive Turkish dishes. Try the hünkar beğendı (spiced stewed lamb on aubergine puree; TL22).

    We made a reservation for my wife's birthday on May 4. We planned to arrive early so as to watch the sunset so the place was empty when we arrived. The staff asked us if we were the couple who reserved the table and they took us to our table which was carefully and beautifully adorned with bougainvillea! There were a number of wines available on the list from reasonable to quite expensive, we settled for the Doluca Angora. We eventually had two bottles as some friends joined us for drinks after dinner and both were quite consistent in quality. The chocolate cake I reserved was excellent and rich, we took most of it home with us as 4 of us could not eat it all.

    We are vegetarians and there were several main course and starter selections marked for vegetarians and prepared with olive oil. The food was top notch and delicious, even my Turkish wife thought it was to a high standard. :-) The service was excellent and never intrusive, the ambience would be difficult to beat and the sunset was unforgettable.

    l went to the restaurant the first time because of the reviews we had read.We went to again and again because we love it so much ! Each time the food was perfect.............
