Turkish Food - Camel Sausage
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 5 February 2012
Today was the 2nd Karaçulha Camel Wrestling Festival, just up the road from where we live. With just a 10 TL entrance fee and proceeds going towards the local school, we would have been negligent not to go again. Last year, we entered the 'arena' (read 'spare land') with trepidation and a little excitement at being able to witness an Aegean Turkish tradition we had never before seen.

Hotels In Fethiye & Turkey
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 29 December 2011
A little claim to fame and some good news for Fethiye this morning as Trip Advisor placed the town on its list of 'destinations on the rise.' Whether that means the whole Fethiye region or just the town itself, we're not sure - but it's still nice to wake up to when a sizeable bunch of your friends rely on good tourist numbers in order to make a living. We'll see what the season brings.

Fethiye Weather - Four December Photos
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 22 December 2011
It's a question everyone asks: What's the weather like in Fethiye in _____? (Insert month). We all know July and August are scorchers on the Southwest coast of Turkey and rain or cloud is very rare. Spring and autumn are pleasant - our favourite time of year in fact - and winter can be anything from mild and sunny to stormy to just downright cold.

Fethiye to Kayaköy: A Winter Afternoon Walk
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 10 December 2011
A few days ago, we were going to Cin Bal in Kayaköy for a bit of a leaving do for a friend. She'd never been before and was determined to try lamb tandır before she left. There were ten of us going and arrangements were going backwards and forwards about how we were getting there. We'll get the dolmuş. I might drive. Can we come with you if you drive?

Çalış Christmas Fayre - Colours Of The Day
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 4 December 2011
Last December, the 2010 Çalış Christmas Fayre was drenched with torrential rain and it was only a few brave soles that attempted to set up stall and a few brave soles that attempted to take part and join in the fun.

Google+ - For Lovers of Fethiye & Turkey
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 8 November 2011
Well, what a day it's been. The virtual world of all that is online is constantly changing and as time goes by, it only seems to be picking up speed rather than settling down into a more relaxed pace of life.

Day Trip from Fethiye: Saklıkent Gorge in Photos
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 3 October 2011
After the photo of the view along Karaçay, we promised photos of Saklıkent Gorge yesterday. Well, we're a day late, so to compensate, we've added a video too, just for good measure. Saklıkent Gorge, meaning Hidden City Gorge, really is a place that you just have to see for yourself because, no matter how many photos you take of these colossal cliff faces, it's impossible to capture their height and the sounds of the rapids gushing beneath you.

Fethiye Weather: The End of Summer...For Us
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 22 September 2011
It's almost as if the Fethiye weather has synced itself with our daily life. As we said goodbye to our friends on Monday afternoon and began to wind down and return to a more normal existence, so the unseasonal September humidity finally gave in to the inevitable build up of electricity.

Dalyan Once More - A Perfect Last Day
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 20 September 2011
This is our remedy for those last-day-in-Turkey-blues. Yesterday, after a fortnight in Çalış, we had to take our friends back to Dalaman Airport for 3pm. Rather than them mope around in Fethiye, sulking at the thought of heading back to rainy Manchester and real life, we suggested hiring a car so we could set off early and spend the day in Dalyan.

Fethiye Cheap Eats: Mozaik Bahçe Meze Plate
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 8 September 2011
We seem to remember a while back, we started on a little quest to hunt out Fethiye's cheap eats. Remember that? Places where we can eat out for 10 lira and under. We wrote about the dürüm kebabs at Öz Gaziantep and the Sundial Burger at the Sundial Hotel amongst others.

Fethiye Boat Trips - The Blue Bays
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 6 September 2011
The coastline and islands in and around the gulf of Fethiye make it just perfect for boat trips. Recently, we've taken advantage of this a few times by doing the Göcek market boat trip - just a great, cheap day out for us.

Visiting Fethiye Museum
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 22 August 2011
Confession time. We've been in Fethiye nearly 8 years, on and off, and in all that time, despite saying, 'We ought to visit Fethiye Museum some day,' we'd never made it till a couple of days back. It took the delivery of the newly discovered statues at Tlos to gee us up into finally making a visit.

Ramazan Events in Fethiye
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 20 August 2011
Apart from the daily sunset cannon, friends fasting or absconding from drinking alcohol and us enjoying the special Ramazan bread, Ramazan in Fethiye usually passes by quietly for us.

Whirling Dervishes - Ramazan in Fethiye
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 17 August 2011
We're halfway through the Muslim holy month of Ramazan and, in Fethiye, the council (belediye) have organised free evening entertainment for each day of this special month. Last night, the crowds - including us - gathered early, knowing the open-air stage was about to be graced with members of Turkey's Konya Mevlevi Order; better known to those in the West as Whirling Dervishes.

Turkish Food: Turkish Bread - A Ramazan Photo Story
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 10 August 2011
Turkish bread is nothing short of paradise to your taste buds! Whenever friends come to see us, one of the first things they want to do (apart from purchasing Efes Pilsen!) is go to the nearest little market or bakery and get some fresh bread. It's just so warm, crusty on the outside, hollow-sounding, soft-centred, light...the perfect bread. We're not being biased here. It's that good!

Caretta Caretta in Turkey: Meet Deniz!
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 8 August 2011
A couple of years ago, you may remember we went to Iztuzu Beach near Dalyan to watch the release of Özlem the loggerhead turtle back into the wild. A few weeks ago, while killing some time before dropping friends off at Dalaman Airport, we returned to Iztuzu Beach because these friends wanted to see the turtle rescue centre we had told them about.

Fethiye During Ramazan: How Will It Affect Your Holiday?
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 2 August 2011
Yesterday, Muslims in Turkey and all over the world began a month of fasting during daylight hours; the holy month of Ramazan is upon us. As it follows a lunar calendar, Ramazan is 11 days earlier each Gregorian calendar year, meaning this year, and for the next few years, Muslims in Turkey and in other hot countries are going to have a pretty tough time of it as they fast - and work - through the hot summer months. The hot summer months are also when many tourists descend upon the Turkish coast for their holidays.

Turkish Food: Aubergine Kebab
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 29 July 2011
Sometimes, with Turkish food, all is not what it seems. Self-catering vegetarians visiting Turkey will be delighted by the variety and vibrancy of the colours of seasonal fruit and vegetables on the local markets.

Is The Fethiye Harbour Sunset The New Çalış Beach Sunset?
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 15 July 2011
Those of you who know this area of Turkey will be more than aware that the Çalış Beach sunset is famous and oft photographed. Each evening, throughout the summer season, scores of holidaymakers and locals alike will reserve the outermost tables at the restaurants lining the beach, only to have their view interrupted by others climbing the wall, cameras pointing towards the sun or at silhouettes of palm trees and romantic couples.

A Dip At The Yacht Classic Hotel
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 24 June 2011
After a slow start to the Turkish spring, the hotter temperatures have hit us with a bang and we can now safely say it's summer. We've been swimming a few times already this season but today, we needed to swim. We needed to be submerged in a cool swimming pool.

Fethiye Day Trip - Göcek In Summer
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 23 June 2011
On Monday, our friends had a late flight from Dalaman airport back to the UK. Rather than us sitting around, waiting and moping all day, we decided to make their last few hours in Turkey a bit more entertaining and we hired a car so we could spend some time in Göcek and Dalyan.

Beer Sipping in Rhodes Old Town

As we posted about the joy that is an icy cold glass of Efes Pilsen yesterday, and as it's the weekend, we thought we'd continue with the beer theme today.

At Sunset - Fethiye To Çaliş By Water Taxi
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 13 June 2011
We make every effort not to take too much for granted living in Fethiye - but sometimes, much as we try not to, we overlook things of beauty that are right under our noses.

Day Trip From Fethiye To Rhodes
Blog: Turkey's For Life - 28 May 2011
In our previous post, we bid farewell to Meis for a while and said we hope to still go there again in the future on a day trip or overnight stay. Yesterday was very possibly our last visa trip for the foreseeable future so we decided to return to the Greek island of Rhodes; an island we haven't been to in over three years.
