Day 1 Arrive Istanbul
Selam and welcome to Turkey! This exciting adventure begins in the fascinating city of Istanbul, straddling Asia and Europe. An arrival group briefing will be held at the hotel around 5pm where you’ll learn more about the trip and get acquainted with your fellow Yomads travellers.
Day 2 Exploring Istanbul on foot
Be prepared for the beautiful prayer calls that emanate from mosques all over Istanbul around 5am. After breakfast it’s out to explore the vast and varied scenes and sights of this exotic city. Time permitting; we’ll enjoy the Hippodrome, Basilica Cistern, Blue Mosque and Haghia Sophia. Entry fees apply to some of these sites, so the choice to enter them is yours. Another must see is the Grand Bazaar - one of the oldest and largest of its kind in the world - and a great place to shop! The evening is free for you to continue exploring Istanbul at your leisure.
Day 3 Istanbul to Kayseri and Cappadocia
There's plenty of free time in the morning to continue roaming Istanbul's streets lined with cafes, book stores, and museums, or to take an optional boat trip on the Bosphorous. Just after lunch we leave for our flight to Kayseri, the main airstrip for entry into the rocky wonderland of Cappadocia in Central Turkey. Upon arrival, we transfer to our hotel in Goreme.
Day 4 Hiking in Cappadocia
For the hot air balloon enthusiasts, Cappadocia is unequalled for its weird and wonderful landscapes to glide over in the early morning. This is optional for those who want to get up before the sun! A scheduled hike begins in the deserted town of Zelve, known for its dwellings that have been etched out of the stone caves but are now crumbling. The trail, relatively unused despite the fantastic views showcasing fairy chimneys and coloured rock valleys, ascends over the top of the Bozdag Mountain and ends at the fresco decorated church of Uzumlu. In the afternoon, we have the option to walk from Uzumlu Church to the Red Valley or to embark on a bike ride before continuing on to Soganli.
Day 5 Southern Cappadocia and Derinkuyu
In our private vehicle we drive on to Southern Cappadocia, stopping en route at the highly recommended 18 storey deep underground city of Derinkuyu. Very different to the previous day’s hikes, this afternoon's Ihlara Canyon/Valley hike offers impressive views of a vast canyon whose riverbed, nourished by the Melendez River, reveals a verdant and productive agricultural region dotted with traditional villages. In the evening, you are free to relax or explore the surrounding area.
Day 6 Egirdir via Konya
Konya is one of Turkey’s oldest cities and the home of the Whirling Dervishes. We stop en route to Egirdi at the Mevlana Museum to see the tomb of Jelaleddin Rumi, a Muslim poet and one of the greatest spiritual teachers of all time. Travelling past apple orchards we arrive at the city of Egirdir and spend some time visiting the beautiful 13th century Egirdir Mosque.
Day 7 To Sagalassos and Elmali
Heading south our adventure continues, crossing the landscapes where small villages show us that life has changed little and traditional practices still ensue. We stop en route to Elmali at Sagalassos nestled in the Taurus Mountains, an ancient city that was influenced by Augustus and one of the best preserved ancient sites in the Mediterranean.
Day 8 Ucarsu Waterfall and Green Lake to Kas
In the morning, make an optional visit to Elmali Museum or use the time to wander the fascinating laneways of this very traditional highland town. It's then on to Gombe for the opportunity to enjoy an authentic oven-baked goat for lunch. A short hike to Ucarsu Waterfall and Green Lake complete our afternoon, giving us time to walk off lunch! Our next stop is the beautiful coastal town of Kas where our accomodation is ideal for relaxing with a pool, a hamam, and a sauna. We highly recommend taking advantage of the great variety of nearby bars, restaurants, and shops that Kas has to offer.
Day 9 Local life in Kas
Today is the first of two days that are yours to explore the fascinating Kas, known as the heart of Lycia. Our recommendations include a lazy boat day with plenty of snorkelling, swimming, dozing, and eating, sea kayaking over the sunken city, paragliding after a hilltop launch over the coast with stunning views of the Greek island, scuba diving, visiting the nearby Greek island of Kastelorizo, and mountain biking across track, country lanes, and downhills.
Day 10 Free day in the heart of Lycia
The day is yours to continue discovering Kas and its endless opportunities that give you a glimpse of the local life.
Day 11 Trip concludes Kas
Our adventure ends after breakfast today. With a check out time of noon, you will have time to revisit your favourite spots of Kas or explore new areas before your departure. For those needing transfers, there are two options that can be arranged prior to the trip.
