At night the lights of the city’s major cultural centre glow behind its stylised steel grill, providing a welcome sight in the otherwise unprepossessing Taksim Sq. Unfortunately, the building isn’t quite as beguiling during the day. The centre is usually home to the İstanbul State Symphony and Choir, İstanbul State Modern Folk Music Ensemble and İstanbul State Classical Turkish Music Choir as well as being a major venue for the İstanbul State Opera and Ballet.
