After checking out the pastries and cakes on sale in the ground-floor patisserie, make your way up the stairs to the roof terrace cafe, where you can order anything that has taken your fancy downstairs or choose from a large and varied menu.

For breakfast try the excellent menemen (eggs cooked with tomatoes, peppers and white cheese) or the super-fresh poğaca (breakfast buns); there are also decadent cakes for morning and afternoon pick-me-ups and kebabs and pastas for lunch. The view, which includes the Sultanahmet skyline, down the Bosphorus and over the Golden Horn, is fabulous.
