This spacious, well-maintained hamam is located across from Azapkapı Sokollu Mehmet Paşa Mosque at the base of the Atatürk Bridge. It has all the traditional trappings and is crowded with testosterone-laden bathhouse lovers – among them expats and in-the-know tourists – who have been displaced from other bathing areas in the city where vigilance has become the norm. The need for discretion cannot be overemphasised here.

    A completely repulsive experience

    We've been there in May 2012 in the afternoon on a working day. The building is in a pretty good state, the ticket prices are fair, and it could be there also very pleasant. But: the massage therapist was brutal in a way that goes far beyond, what is common in Istanbul Turkish baths. He has done us both sustained injuries to the skin. He called his tip in a brazen and physically threatening way.
    The crowd was very mixed and busy. We saw what we expected and heard noises that we would rather not have heard. In our opinion a couraged empty of the nasal cavities doesn't belong in an intimate dome.
    To say it clear: the visit to this institution was a completely repulsive experience.

    Went with my partner early on a weekday. Perhaps that was the cause? Hoped for hunky guys sponging one another under Byzantine mosaics. However. The place was empty minus one hunky Turk who split straightaway, leaving a rather chunky fellow and a masseur with what can be only described as a large pumpkin-sized tumor jutting out of his lower intestine. We fled.

    Went there one sundayafternoon in may and met plenty of very ininhibited guys. Entrance is now 21 L. When staff is about to enter, the 'watchqueen' warns and everyone all of a sudden pretends that nothing suspicious is going on. This is apparently what is meant with 'be discreet'. All ages. Don't go there for luxurious facilities. If you dont mind sex with plenty of witnesses you are in the right place. Some assertivity is needed, or you might even end up in unsafe sex. Had good fun.

    Not good for: bathing
