  1. A

    Hideaway Cafe & Bar

Well named, this enchanting cafe-garden is accessible from the street via a secret doorway opposite Noel Baba Cafe. Turkish breakfast (TL17.50) and Sunday brunch is offered, as well as snacks and cakes.

    Dem-Lik

Dem-Lik is located (mostly) in a large garden behind high stone walls, where Antalya's university crowd reshapes the world between ice-cold beers, while listening to (mostly) rock and blues.

  3. Taş Kahve

From the card players and swooping swallows inside to the children tearing around outside, this is Alibey's favourite venue to catch up on town gossip.

  4. Yes Marina Cafe

There are worse places than this fine cafe and bar with a large sea-facing terrace to while away a lazy sunny afternoon. It's in a small marina in the western harbour.

    Terrace Bar

High above the cliffs at the end of Hesapçı Sokak and opposite the Hıdırlık Kalesi, the Terrace offers drinks and end-of-the-world views.

  6. Kybele Cafe

The lounge bar at this charming but vaguely eccentric hotel is chock-full of antique furniture, richly coloured rugs and old etchings and prints, but its signature style comes courtesy of the hundreds of colourful glass lights hanging from the ceiling.

    Koza Caffe

Ignore the incongruous medieval decor and settle in for coffee and snacks with a soundtrack of bouncy Turkish pop. Get lucky and grab a seat at the tiny outdoor balcony. They'll even outsource a beer or a glass of wine if you ask them nicely.

    Gren

If there were such a thing as a hipster hangout in Bursa, it would be Gren – the city's self-dubbed 'first photography cafe'. With an eclectic assortment of black-and-white snaps and antique cameras scattered about, it makes for a great place to relax with a glass of anything after a lively meal along Arap Şükrü just next door.

    Destina Cafe & Bar

Situated on a residential street, Destina bustles with a young local crowd that gathers around candlelit tables in the charming outdoor garden. Inside, mod music wafts through the air as furious games of backgammon are played on white leather sofas. Head to the hidden chill-out room in the back and grab a stool upholstered in snazzy animal print.

    Benzin

This waterfront bar-cafe done out in 1960s decor is a relaxing spot for a drink and a bite (pizzas TL8 to TL12.50) but gets packed at the weekend.

Attached to a local culture centre on the top floor of a renovated Ottoman house, this is a low-key neighbourhood choice and a good place to start an evening out.

    Apollonik

Hidden within the ruins around the Temples of Apollo and Athena, the Apollonik is prima facie evidence that travel can be fun, romantic and full of surprises. It does food too, with mains (mostly grills) TL12 to TL20.

    Anton

Although the brusque service starkly contrasts the inviting blue-and-white Med-inspired facade, Anton is still a congenial place for a late-night drink. Enjoy a beer in the back courtyard surrounded by Roman busts and decorative murals.

    Amazon

Although billed as a restaurant, we much prefer Amazon as a drinking spot. With some of the most refined decor in town, this sociable place has an African hunting-lodge vibe inside, and the outdoor seating, just across the road, boasts views of one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World (hey, it's not every restaurant that can say that).
