Kale Washington
By far the most elegant eatery in the old town, the 'WR' serves international cuisine to visiting dignitaries (Hillary Clinton reportedly ate here) and some Turkish specialities including halep işi kebap and su böreği. The views from the white tablecloths are most palatable.

Cafe Tarçın
If you're having trouble choosing from the massive menu of gözleme (savoury pancakes), kebaps, pizza, salads and sandwiches then just opt for the daily special. The hearty meal of çorba (soup), a main dish and rice (TL8) is sure to fill you up. Afterwards, relax on the comfy sofa-seating with your complimentary çay.

Le Man Kültür
Named after a cult Turkish comic strip – and decorated accordingly – this is still the pre-party pick for a substantial feed and for spotting beautiful young educated things. Drinks are reasonably priced and the speakers crank everything from indie-electro to Türk pop.
