Lonely Planet review for Göreme Restaurant

The live Turkish music played here every night tends to lure diners off the comfortable floor cushions and onto the impromptu dance floor around the low brass tables. The food is nothing special, but it's well priced and the menu includes 'world kitchen' items such as green curry chicken, stir-fried noodles with vegetables and falafel sandwiches. Beer and rakı (aniseed brandy) flow freely and service is good.

    Clay pots and cushions

    iwojciechowska recommends this,

On Goreme’s main strip you’ll find the eponymous restaurant where the owner comes onto the street to welcome you in. Once inside, you’re asked to take off your shoes before stepping into the main dining room devoid of chairs, and instead lined with cushions and low brass tables. The waiter extolled the local wine and brought us a deep red in an earthenware jug with warm bread while we waited for our meals. The restaurant was empty but for a couple of tourists nestled in a corner smoking nargile, but the folksy décor and the cozy atmosphere made for a charming evening. We ordered hearty Cappadocian fare, including the regionally acclaimed testi kebap, of which the waiter made a spectacle: he brought the sealed clay pot out on a tray, stood near our table, and cracked the pot open with a large knife-bordering-on-sword. Inside, there was a steaming chicken stew (also available with beef instead), served with rice and salad. We also ordered maccan, a flavorful plate of lamb, vegetables, and rice, served on a brass plate heated with a candle from underneath. The meals were inexpensive, prompt, and delicious.

Goreme Restaurant is an easy walk from anywhere within the town, and brings to life the charm of Cappadocian folklore and cuisine.
