The Han is our favourite Ürgüp restaurant for atmospheric yet casual dining. Service is super-friendly and the menu is a meander through Turkish favourites with a modern twist. After dinner, retire to the cool bar downstairs, under the vine trellis, that has a city atmosphere, an excellent wine list, and serves up mean Martinis.
This low-key eatery on the main square is a great spot to have a beer and people-watch. Given Avanos' pottery trade, it's hardly surprising that the speciality is güveç ( beef stew with potatoes, tomatoes, garlic, paprika and cumin, baked in a clay pot).
