Lonely Planet review

Situated in a cobblestoned lane in the former Jewish quarter, about a 10-minute walk from Ulu Cami, this historic restaurant is named for its founder, an Independence War hero whose descendents still run it. From seafood meze to main courses, all the dishes are excellent and fresh. Try the karides güveç (shrimp casserole), excellent grilled octopus, and rakı with melon. Similar restaurants line the same street, frequently regaled by accordion-wielding Roma bands.
