Lonely Planet review for Ejder Restaurant

Run by a welcoming husband-and-wife team (Mehmet does the meat, his wife the veg), this popular restaurant is a firm favourite with travellers for its delicious dishes (try chicken şiş or the sizzling Anatolian meat platter) and atmospheric setting under the arches of the Roman Aqueduct. While waiting for your meal, ask to see the 25 tomes of comments left by diners – everyone leaves a note, their signature and a small memento (a metro ticket from their hometown, a foreign coin etc – we even found a parking ticket and human hair!). Careful perusers will find an autograph from the late Steve Irwin.

We were in Selcuk last week. Mehmet made us kebabs to go because we were waiting to catch a train, The food was fresh and delicious, best kebabs we had our entire trip. We highly recommend this restaurant!

    Highly recommend!

    krustapentus recommends this,

My family and I had an incredible meal and experience here. The family who owns and operates the establishment went out of their way to make us feel welcome - even delivering a surprise cake at the end of the meal for my Father's birthday.

The food is some of the best we experienced on the entire trip through Turkey and Greece.

Excellent food, cheap vegetarian options, storks & fountain

    djagoe recommends this,

This was by far the best meal we had during our 2 weeks in Turkey (though we weren't eating in expensive restaurants). The food was cooked freshly & was nicely seasoned (much tastier than other meals we had in Turkey).

The family who run it are genuinely friendly (not pushy).

We had a Doner kebap & an Imam Bayalduh. The kebap was juicy, tender and nicely seasoned. The accompanying rice & salad were also nicely seasoned (rare). The Imam Bayalduh had a perfect texture, and the tomato / onion / spicy pepper filling was delicious.

We stayed & ate in 2 budget pensions in Selcuk & Pamukkale that were recommended in the Lonely Planet guide, and whilst their home-cooked food was certainly decent, it didn't compare with the quality & finesse of the food in the Ejder restaurant, which also worked out significantly cheaper.

In addition we were next to the fountain & had a view of the storks in their nests on top of the aqueduct.
