Since joining Thorntree I have been delighted to read so many wonderful trip reviews. These are most often full of the small details so important and useful to independent travellers. How sad then that in time these slip down the forum pages and get lost or forgotten about. All that help…all that typing! So I have trawled through the last 12 months and collated all the trip reviews and, after equal amounts of bullying and flattery,Zabba(mmwwahh!)has agreed to make this a sticky,so it will now be at…

So... I guess this post is about security...

I'm on a bike tour, currently in Konya, about to head towards Cappadocia and then further east towards Van, then up to Georgia.

Now, I'm not at all prone to hysteria and I've felt absolutely perfectly 100% safe travelling so far in Turkey (wild camping in the mountains, and all) but I am aware that the security situation is a bit more volatile out east and that there are road closures and army checkpoints and stuff like that. So if anyone has any…

I have traveled Turkey a few times, and am thinking to go back for two weeks from the first week of November. I am thinking to do a hike in the Kackars, see Ani, and then I am not sure what. The hanging monetary seems close and interesting - although doesn't seem more than a day trip at most - and potentially Safranbolu. But what can you all suggest? I've done the coast plenty (although not the Black Sea), I've visited the most regularly touristed areas (Istanbul, Ephesus, Cappadocia). Thoughts…

I've just returned from Turkey & Georgia and thanks to Metro Turizm I could still be there! One screw up is acceptable but a long list of them pretty much means I will go out of my way to avoid using these clowns in the future!

Istanbul to Batumi.
Made to change buses before even leaving the otogar. The new bus got us two hours down the road to Dudullu (sp?) where we were dumped for 4 hours with no explanation whatsoever. Eventually another bus arrived and took the 16 hours to Hopa where we…

Hello!
We're leaving in December for two weeks in Turkey and I've done a lot of research but have a few unanswered questions.

1) I'm wondering if this schedule (http://www.tcdd.gov.tr/files/bolgeseller/basmanedenizli.pdf) is the most current at the moment, or if this (http://www.turkeytravelplanner.com/go/Aegean/Izmir/transport/izmir-selcuk_train.html) is the correct one right now. If it's the former...we arrive on a Sun Express flight at 6:10 pm and it looks like 18:48 would be the last train…

Hi folks! With my wife we spent 15 days in east Turkey last August. Not the ideal time to travel to that part of the country but we have going there. Our itinerary: flying Istanbul to Gaziantep – Malatya (Nemrut Dağı) – Cappadocia – Ankara – Amasya – Sinop – Safranbolu – Ankara – flying to Van – Doğubeyazıt – Kars – Georgia. About the security situation. It did not affect our trip but there are obviously places where it is good to have your eyes even more wide open than usual and rely on the…

Is there a shuttle bus from Ankara (Esenboga) airport to Ankara city center please? I have tried www.havas.com.tr, but it seems that this service no longer exists.
