Brendan first went to Angola as a volunteer worker in 2001, where he got his hands dirty digging latrines, building an outdoor gymnasium and directing a Portuguese version of Shakespeare's A Comedy of Errors deep in the African bush. He finally got the opportunity to return to the country in June 2006 to update the Angola chapter for the upcoming Lonely Planet Africa (30th Anniversary Edition) guide. Currently based in Vancouver, Brendan has also written the Lonely Planet guides to Cuba and Havana.
