Piers Pickard has worked as an underwater archaeologist, travel writer and mountain guide. He specialises in the more bumpy areas of the world, having worked everywhere from Kazakhstan to Timbuktu. He first visited Nepal in 1995, where on a trek around the Annapurnas he almost found what he was looking for - he found his sole. Since then he's returned to the country many times leading treks and climbs. When he's not at home in Melbourne publishing Lonely Planet's Asian guidebooks, he's happiest in thin air and bright snow.
