A California native, Michael travelled to Asia after university and discovered a career in journalism. Reporting trips bounced him between Burma, Nepal, India and Afghanistan, with a longer stint in Mongolia that culminated in his first book: Dateline Mongolia: An American Journalist in Nomad’s Land. Michael joined Lonely Planet in 2003 and has since written more than ten guides, including Central Asia and Israel & the Palestinian Territories.
