Scheming to one day establish his own fiefdom and cult of personality, Peter set off for Central Asia in the 1990s to study the art of post-Soviet propaganda, bureaucracy and self-imposed rule. His hobbies include buzkashi, strumming the dombra and camel cheese. His best-selling novel Mutton for Your Soul: A Spiritual Guide For the Steppes was followed by Careen, Dodge and Swerve: A Driver's Handbook to Central Asia and The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Warlords. He has enjoyed several visits to his favourite 'Stan, Turkmenistan, where he rides Akhal-Tekke horses and enjoys caviar by the bowl.
